Artist’s Statement

Inspired by Feminist theory, ‘Skin Trophies’ satirises the damaging nature of misogynistic society by ridiculing the objectification of women. We are ‘stained’ by the patriarchy’s perception and mistreatment of women, i.e., sexual assault, and are ‘torn’ as a result. In pain, there is confusion, and ultimately the work explores my own personal confusion regarding the paradoxes and inconsistencies of the feminist narrative. Thus, to provide a momentary liberation from such as well as spiritual cleanse, the work ‘washes’ the aforementioned away, although such a task is not as easy in reality.
