The Last Supper

Sculpture, video, 2021

Artist’s Statement

Parodying the original biblical work of the same title, the artwork functions as an epithet to religion as secularity and humanist ideologies rise to usurp other previously dominant faiths. The work recontextualises the original painting into the medium of videography, using such to deconstruct the surfaces displayed. The iconography of the wafer paper and wine serve to destroy one another, as they are ‘consumed’ by clay; humans. In doing so, the artwork illustrates the death of God or the death of religion in society in a merely objective framework.
